For example , ‘he’, ‘tree’, and ‘key’ all make the long ‘e’ sound, but are spelt different ways. The Vowel Sound Directory has identified 19 different vowel sounds in 3 categories, long, short and ‘r’-controlled vowels. These can be quickly found pupils using the unique tabbed design and colour coding.
